  • The ears are damaged very easily. In order to hear well you need to use hairs which are inside the cochlea which is part of the ear. The noise entering the ear, moves these hairs and they allow you to interpret the sound. However, there are only a small amount of hairs in this part of the ear and if they are damaged or destroyed they are not replaced. If you listen to loud music or are otherwise exposed to loud noise then the hairs are damaged or fall out. This means that a person who is frequently exposed to loud noise is more likely to need a hearing aid when they get older. Many people do not seem to realise that this is the case and ignore others telling them that listening to loud music will damage their ears. With MP3 players becoming more popular it is probably likely that more people will need hearing aids as younger generations grow up. If you work in an environment where you are exposed to a lot of loud noise then you should make sure that the company provides you with some ear defenders. If you like listening to music, whether using headphones or not, make sure that you do not have it too loud. The same goes for listening to the radio or the television, try not to turn it up louder than you need. I think younger people do not think it matters if they damage their hearing but I am sure that if they suddenly discovered that they would need hearing aids just to function properly, then I think they might be likely to change their mind. Because they are associated with old people, then it may be some incentive to help younger people protect themselves from damaging noises as long as the evidence was provided in a favourable manner.
